Howto Sync Open Tabs in Chrome 19

16 May

Heard about the new feature that syncs open tabs across your various installs of Google’s chrome browser? Well it does just that. But it’s only in the latest version (19 as of this post) and Google is rolling it out to users slowly. If you are one of the lucky ones, then you can enable it using the Chrome sync settings page. If not – don’t panic, there is another way. Read on for how to do both:

Am I using Chrome 19?

As far as I know, (please correct me if I’m wrong)for stable versions of Chrome this only … Read the rest

Raspberry Pi Resources

22 Feb

I imagine that most who find this post, will have already heard of the Raspberry Pi. But if not you should check it out: it’s a $25/$35 computer, about the size of a pack of playing cards, that offers a world of possibilities for both educators and tech lovers like me.

And so, I present to you a list of resources to help you find more information about this project. These are as much for my reference as anything else, but I hope you find them useful too:

Box.net on Opensuse using WebDAV (davfs2)

30 Dec

I recently signed up for a free Box.net account as they were offering 50GB of online storage for free to LG android phone users, which currently includes me. But unlike Dropbox, they seem to have left Linux out in the cold; providing no native client for syncing. But there is always a way around such things, and with some digging I’ve manage to get things working on Opensuse 11.4. These instructions however should work on other versions of Opensuse and indeed other Linux flavours entirely.

As always here, I assume you have a basic level of Linux knowledge – you … Read the rest

Opensuse 11.4 Google Music Manager “connection to service failed”

23 Jul

Just a quick post to say that if you have downloaded the new Google Music Beta client for Linux, and get a “Connection to service failed. Please check your internet connection and try again.” error right after logging in….. then this might help you.

Note: I’ve only tried this on Opensuse 11.4, but it may work on other versions/distros. Fedora users should try here first.. Credit to that link for pointing me in the right direction for Opensuse.

Basically the Google Music Manager is failing because it can’t find the file “ca-certificates.crt” in the location it expects. A chance … Read the rest

Install Luminance HDR on OpenSuse 11.3

Recently I’ve purchased a new DSLR camera (specifically a Canon Rebel T2i/550D) and have been keen to try out some HDR photography (if you don’t know about HDR Photography I suggest you check this excellent tutorial on the subject.

However I wanted to try using some open source software for this task, and the best I could find was Luminance HDR. This looks like it’ll do the job nicely, but could I find any packages for Opensuse 11.3? Nope.

After some grumbles, I managed to get it to install from source – but had to make some modifications. … Read the rest

Fix Google Chrome 10 Missing Password Sync on Linux

UPDATE: Looks like the latest Google Chrome update fixes this issue, so no need to follow the steps below. Just upgrade Chrome instead!
————–
If, like me, you are running the latest Google Chrome 10 (stable) on Linux (at the time of writing this is version 10.0.648.134-77917) you may have noticed the password sync feature has disappeared. I’ve experienced this problem on OpenSuse 11.3 and have also seen it reported on Ubuntu 11.04, but as the problem seems to lie in Chrome itself, I expect this issue to be found on all Linux flavours that are running this release of … Read the rest

Welcome one and all

Hello, and welcome to TechMuse.
